In our parish there are two Bible Study groups; the Tuesday evening group and the Wednesday afternoon group. The Tuesday evening group starts at 7pm with hymn singing and conversation; the Study of the Word starts at 8pm ending at 9pm.
The Wednesday afternoon group’s study is part of the Wednesday Holy Eucharist service which starts at noon.
As part of our Christian formation and fundamental to the establishing a worship community, ministry to children and youth is one of the priority areas at St. Stephen, Downsview. The Sunday School has a current enrolment of approximately 15 to 20 students with eight teachers and teaching assistants and volunteers. The Sunday School program begins at pre-school (age 3 years) and runs to Grade 6, this is when the children then become members of the youth group.
Every year the children lead the worship for Children’s Sunday (2nd Sunday in June). This is a special time for the children. They also participate in Christmas pageants. An important moment in the life of the congregation is “In God’s Garden” at the start of the 10:30 a.m. service. The children eagerly look forward to that time of sharing with the clergy prior to Sunday School.
The objective of Youth Talk is to enable the youth through fun and culturally relevant activities to discover Jesus. Through evangelism, the youth are encouraged to have a personal relationship with Jesus. With a strong emphasis on mentorship, the youth are further encouraged to be faithful followers of Christ and to use their God given gifts to reach out to the world with the Gospel. The Youth Talk group also serve as part of the Advisory Board for the Downsview Youth Covenant.
